Being the beautiful and historic city we have all come to love, it is no surprise that there are so many thing to do in Savannah GA. Whether you’re here for the day, a long weekend or are a local, there is always something new to explore!
Forsyth Park
Home to the famous fountain, Forsyth Park is one of your can’t miss things to do in Savannah GA. Take a stroll and enjoy a glass of wine on a picnic. That’s right! You’re welcome to bring your own bottle for a romantic rendezvous. Also great for families, there is a large playground with regular activities scheduled in the atrium. Bring some bubbles, a ball or a kite to work out some energy in the open field.
Leopold’s Ice Cream
In business since 1919, Leopold’s Ice Cream is the flavor of Savannah. Don’t be intimidated by the line that wraps around the building at times. The workers are friendly and the line is worth it! Their Honey Almonds & Cream is my personal favorite, using another local product in their recipe – the honey from Savannah Bee Company. For the kids, be sure to ask for stickers and a hat at the register. They’ll love it! Be sure to add this to your list of things to do in Savannah GA.
Wormsloe Historic Site
One of the most iconic spots and things to do in Savannah GA, Wormsloe is well-known for its oak lined drive. You’ll want to arrive in the morning to explore the beautiful sprawling grounds at your leisure. There are a variety of trails, the silo, tabby ruins and so much more. Whatever you do, don’t forget to take photos right by the entrance sheltered by the huge oaks and spanish moss.
Tybee North Beach
One of the often overlooked things to do in Savannah GA is the beach. Yes, the beach! Tybee North Beach is just a short drive from Historic Downtown Savannah. I recommend parking near the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. This is also near the the lighthouse with a boardwalk heading out to the sand. There’s even some jetties to explore tidepools with kids! You might be able to catch a glimpse of the sunset over the water on a clear evening.
Old Town Trolley Tours
If you’re a first time visitor to Savannah, put this down as one of the first things to do in Savannah, GA. You’ll be able to explore the city on your own terms with unlimited on and off privileges. The animated guide will give you lots of great tidbits on the history and the area. And, if you hear something you’d like to check out, just hop off and check it out! That’s one of the beauties of this tour.
City Market
Are you looking for cute shops and casual dining options? The cobblestone area is off limits to cars and you’ll have plenty to see in the numerous art galleries with local artists displaying their goods. There’s ample outdoor dining and live music. You can catch a horse drawn carriage ride from here for a different view of the city. During the hottest days of summer, bring some towels for the kids to dry off after cooling down in the splash pad.
River Street
This is truly a special and unique spot! Steep cobblestone steps with warning signs descend to roads lined with shops and restaurants. River Street Sweets hands out free praline samples which are so hard to pass up buying a box full. Delicious souvenir to bring back home with you! Outdoor seating and rooftop dining overlook the river while boats float on by.
Plant Riverside District
Plant Riverside District has plenty of covered and indoor areas which is great for a rainy or extremely hot day. One of the newest areas in Savannah’s downtown area, it is filled with unique and high end restaurants. A cobblestone promenade right on the river is amazing for a night time stroll with string lights floating around you.
Escape Room
Get in on the fun and escape with friends and family! I personally love the thrill of a hands on puzzle. It’s a great option to cool down or hide from the rain. You can grab a drink and bring it inside with you. Play some board games, like giant Jenga, while you wait on your escape room to be ready. They’re great with clues… if you need them!
Photo Session
Last, but not least, a photo session with your’s truly is the best way to hold on to memories of your trip to Savannah. Forsyth Park, River Street, Wormsloe and Tybee North Beach are client favorites! Honestly, though, any of the squares throughout historic downtown are special.
